Festive event marking the 80th birthday of our Honorary President, Dr. Grotheer

On January 31, 2026, a celebratory event was held at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Private Law in Hamburg in honor of our Honorary President, Dr. Grotheer, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

The honoree and his contributions to German-Japanese exchange and the Hamburg judiciary were recognized by Mr. Shinsuke Toda, Japanese Consul General in Hamburg; Dr. Marc Tully, President of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court of Hamburg; and Professor Dr. Makoto Ida of Chuo University.

Following the ceremony, Mr. Michiharu Hayashi, Justice of the Supreme Court of Japan, and Professor Dr. Doris König, former Vice President of the Federal Constitutional Court, spoke about the role of the Federal Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court, respectively, in safeguarding democracy and the rule of law in Germany and Japan.
